vCard QR Code FAQ

What is a vCard QR code?

A vCard QR code is a digital business card you can scan. It holds contact details such as name, phone number, email address, and company. The phone reads that data and offers to save it as a new contact.

The vCard sits in the QR code. No website opens, and no internet connection is required.

How do I create a QR code for my business card?

First enter the contact details that should appear on the business card. Then download the QR code and scan it with your phone. Check that every field shows up correctly.

For print, use the SVG file. Place it in the layout and test the code again at the real print size.

Which contact details belong in the QR code?

Store only details that are useful after a scan. Name, company, job title, phone number, email address, and website are usually enough. An address makes sense if it is also on the card.

Use phone numbers with a country code, for example +41 instead of 079. The more data the QR code holds, the finer its pattern becomes, and the harder it can be to scan on a small card.

How large should the QR code be on a business card?

We recommend at least 2.5 × 2.5 cm. A vCard holds more data than a short web address, so it usually needs a slightly larger QR code.

Leave enough clear space around the code. Do not put text, images, or trim edges there. Always test the QR code at the final print size and on more than one phone.

Can the QR code be coloured?

Yes. What matters is clear contrast: the QR code should be dark and the background light. Light colours, similar tones, or a dark background can make scanning harder.

What looks fine on screen can look weaker in print. Check a printout at full size, especially on coloured or uncoated paper.

Should I download SVG, PNG, or VCF?

SVG works best for business cards and other print. You can scale the file up or down without losing quality.

PNG suits digital uses such as email signatures or presentations. The VCF file holds the contact without a QR code. You can open it, send it, or import it into an address book.

How is this different from a URL or LinkedIn QR code?

A URL QR code opens a website. A LinkedIn QR code leads to a LinkedIn profile. A vCard QR code hands the contact details straight to the phone's address book.

A printed vCard cannot be updated later. If a phone number or email address changes, you need a new QR code. In return, the code works without hosting, an account, or a redirect.

Do you store my contact details or track scans?

No. The contact details you enter are processed in your browser and are not sent to our server. The finished QR code has no tracking URL. So vcardqr.ch does not learn when or by whom it is scanned.

The site only measures anonymous page views with an analytics tool. That statistic has no contact details and no information about later scans.

Does the QR code work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. On iPhone you can scan the QR code with the Camera app. Most Android phones also recognise it with the camera or with Google Lens. Then you can save the contact in the address book.

An extra app is usually not needed.

Is the vCard QR code generator free and open source?

Yes. The generator is free and works without an account, subscription, or watermark. The source code is published on GitHub under the MIT license.
