What is a vCard?

A vCard is a digital business card. It holds contact details such as name, phone number, email address, company, and address. As a file it uses the .vcf extension. When you open it, the phone or computer recognises the data and offers to save the contact in the address book.

What is a vCard for?

A vCard lets you pass on contact details quickly and completely. Nobody has to type names, phone numbers, or email addresses by hand. That saves time and avoids typos.

Which devices support vCards?

vCard is a widespread standard that has been around since the 1990s. iPhone, Android, Apple Contacts, Google Contacts, Outlook, and Thunderbird can open and import .vcf files. Version 3.0, which this tool uses, is read reliably by current devices — including umlauts in Apple Contacts.

What data does a vCard hold?

A vCard holds at least a name. You can also store phone numbers, email addresses, company, job title, postal address, and website. Which fields you include is up to you.

How does a vCard work as a QR code?

The contact details in a vCard can sit directly in a QR code. When you scan it, the phone reads the data and offers to create a new contact. No extra app or website visit is needed.
